Lovely Hoffman stops by CCTV Live to share a musical message!

Habari Gani! What Is the News Cambridge! Roxbury born Lovely Hoffman stopped by CCTV Live studios for the reboot of Spring Affair with host Maurice Wilkey. Ms. Hoffman holds a lot of titles. Not only is Lovely a Boston school teacher, she is a music artist, an actor, a singer, activist, and producer. One of her latest music creations is a song titled 'My Black is Beautiful'. She shared with the CCTV host the catalyst for creating the song for purposes of empowering young women of color to have self pride. She revealed some of her own personal experiences of having impressionable teachers in her own life musically, academically and spiritually which helped her become the person she is today. Additionally, Ms. Hoffman shared her acting experiences. Lovely has performed with local theater companies in productions such as the Color Purple, based on Alice Walker's book. She portrayed the character Cellie. Lovely described the many twists and turns embodied in the role, revealing once again the common thread similar to the song, 'My Black Is Beautiful' of beauty and knowledge of self discovery. We also discussed other musical endeavors she is working on which pertain to current events this last week of 2017. Lovely recorded a song and video for the celebration week of Kwanzaa. The title of her song is 'A Kwanzaa Song'. For those who may not be familiar Kwanzaa's creation dates back to 1966 when its founder Dr. Maulana Karenga, sought out to honor his African and African American heritage with seven days filled with core principles. The core principles are called the Nguzo Saba, and each day has an associated meaning. The commemorative days are always December 26 through January 1. When Lovely stopped by Thursday it marked the fourth day standing for Ujamaa, which translated stands for Co-operative Economics. The greeting for each day begins with the phrase, "The "Habari gani?" Which translated means "What is the good news!" The celebrations conclude with a feast and gift giving. Lovely shared her recording and video with me and its filled with local area history and heritage. She is currently working on a one person show, which she hopes will hits stages very soon. People interested in finding out more about her and her music, teaching and more are welcomed to go to her website LovelyHoffman.com. She is extremely gifted artist and embodiment of a teacher, who uses her knowledge to build youth and community through her artistry. I am sure we have not heard the last of Lovely Hoffman or her message. It was a pleasure to sit down with her for a few minutes to discuss her works. Happy Kwanzaa Cambridge!
