The Cambridge Little Baseball league held its annual all-star classic at the Tobin field adjacent to the Elementary School in West Cambridge. The teams involved were East, north, west, and central Divisions. Both the minor leagues ane the major league represented four teams.

To start off the festivities on Saturday September 9th, the east division played against the central in a minor league showdown. Central was held to just one hit by the East. A scoreless game went into the fourth inning when the East pushed across two runs which turned out to be the only tallies they would need. In the fifth they added another run. Not to be denied the central broke the shutout in the fifth inning. That was the only run they would manage. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the East Division all-stars.

The second minor league game pitted the north Division against the West. The West allowed just one baserunner while striking out every batter for a no-hit shutout. The West piled up ten runs and earned a birth into Sunday's final against East Cambridge.

Next up came the Major League semi-finals. The first game was the Central against the East to determine who plays in the championship game on Sunday. In the third inning the central team erupted for three and two more in the fifth to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The east broke the shutout with a homerun in the last inning, ;but it was not enough.

In the second semi-final playoff game the North challenged perennial winners from the West. The west struck first with three runs in the second inning and two more in the third as they were cruising along until hitting a bump in the road allowing a game-tying grand slam home run to the North. However gamely, they were the West who won the game in the sixth and last inning. So we were on our way to the two championship games.

First we will cover the minor league game. The west took challenge of the east starting quickly scoring four runs in the first inning on their way to a total of 12 runs. The east were a scrappy bunch and they fought hard coming up with four runs of their own.

The final game of the all-star weekend came on Sunday as the Central Division faced off against the West. The West struck early with one run in the first, three more in the third, and two more in the fifth while holding the Central to just one run.

So, congratulations to all eight teams. Win or lose you were all stars in every sense of the word in the 2017 all-star tournament.
