For this installment of Beyond Boston, in which we showcase the best of community media news around the region, we attempt to offer a glimpse into various aspects and issues related to the education system in Massachusetts and how this important institution operates under the current Trump Administration. Hosted by DigBoston editor and Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism (BINJ) co-founder Chris Faraone, BEYOND BOSTON is a monthly regional news magazine spotlighting reporting from Boston, MA area community access centers - including Brookline Interactive Group (BIG) in Brookline, MA, Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) in Cambridge, MA, Malden Access TV (MATV) in Malden, MA, Somerville Community Access Television (SCATV) in Somerville, MA, LTC Lowell and Watertown Cable Access Corp- in partnership with BINJ. Our guest this month is Barbara Madeloni, the president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. The episode ends with commentary by DigBoston editor and BINJ co-founder Jason Pramas. One correction on something I said during the interview: Barilla addressed their company's anti-gay policies in response to criticism. In recent years, the company has practiced supporting the LGBT community by expanding health benefits to transgender workers and their families, donating to gay rights causes and more.
